Twelve Steps Method

The twelve steps program is based on the approach of Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotic anonymous. It is used by different treatment facilities in Canada. It is used as a complete therapy or it is included in a different philosophy as an add-on to the main treatment.

It is used with a code which has twelve different parts (the steps) that the person has to work through them to achieve a permanent sobriety. These treatments are used on outpatient treatments as well as residential drugs and alcohol rehab centers. The main use of the twelve steps methods is as a support group. People addicted goes to meetings to meet with individuals who have similar problem and they can share their experience.

Bio-Physical Approac

The bio-physical approach is a long term treatment with no exact duration. It goes by the individual's needs. It addresses two main aspects. The first is the physical aspect that is done through vitamins, nutrients, exercise and sauna. The main objective is to shut down the physical cravings so the person can address the mental aspect without the triggers of his addiction.

The second part of the treatment teaches the individual to cope with life. It is done through different parts to get the person to be able to go back in life and face day to day situation with the tools to be able to cope and live a better life. The philosophy of the bio-physical treatment is to get the person to take responsibility of his addiction. They do not think that addiction is a disease but more a bad choice made by the individual.

Behavioral Modification

This type of treatment addresses the behaviors of the individual. It tries to "break him" in order to build him back in a better person. As an example the person can be put in front of all the class and everybody yells at him. The success of this method is unknown we were not able to find any study that gives any type of success to this technique.

Note: The above text in for information only. Drug Rehab Services does not refer anyone to these type of therapy. We do not believe that addiction can be cured with the behavioral modification therapy.

Religious Based Treatment

Rehabs that are religious based are usually long term treatment programs ( in some case over a year). They will deal with faith, bible, families and get the person to regain his faith and self esteem. There are no success rate that we were able to find for this type of treatment.

Cognitive Behavioral Program

The cognitive approach is to bring the person to be able to differentiate what he really is compare to the pattern he has of invalidating himself with these thought of himself. It helps the person to build confident to overcome these thoughts and the stimuli that comes with it.

The cognitive behavioral approach is not a treatment by itself but incorporated to a main treatment as a supplement to the therapy.

Art Therapy

This therapy is to help the individual physically, emotionally and spiritually with the use of different arts such as:

  • Music
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Acting

Art therapy is never the foundation of a treatment but incorporated to an existing program. Some treatment will use nature, farm etc. They all have the same purpose to get the individual to create from different field.
